Richmond, Virginia – Yount, Hyde & Barbour, P.C., one of the leading certified public accounting and business consulting firms in Virginia, announced that R. Curtis Thompson, CPA.CITP, CISA has become a principal in the firm.

Curtis began working in the tax department, consulting with small businesses, and performing IT audits for banks. He spent several years serving as the firm’s IT director and internal network administrator. Now, as head of our Risk Advisory Services Team, Curtis focuses on assisting banks and healthcare organizations with internal audits and controls. He proactively advises them on ways to improve their systems and processes. Curtis is frequently a guest speaker for a number of organizations. His presentations cover SOX compliance, internal controls, and data security.

Curtis joined Yount, Hyde & Barbour in 1995 after owning his own business and serving as the General Manager of a regional oil company. He earned a degree in Accounting from Shepherd University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), Rotary Club of Innsbrook, and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

As a Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Curtis brings highly specialized training and knowledge to bear on client needs. This expertise, as well as his real world business and systems experience, has given him a broad understanding of both IT and operational processes, which makes him especially effective at analyzing and evaluating the controls over these processes. Also, because he’s worked on the management as well as the technical side of IT, Curtis excels in explaining to management the business risks associated with various IT issues.
