Preserving Historic Winchester
When YHB heard an historic Old Town building was for sale, they jumped at the opportunity to preserve Winchester. With a growing firm, they decided they needed to expand, yet, they were determined to stay in Old Town. The current office being on Cameron Street made this new opportunity even better – only a couple of blocks away.
The P.E.R.C. Fitness building was up for sale. This historic building has had many functions in its 250 years. It was originally the Lemley Price Home built in 1760. The home was built over a vaulted fieldstone prison that was constructed in 1750 to hold Hessian soldiers during the Revolutionary War.
In 1811 a rear addition was added as a weaver’s shop. During the Civil

War, like many Winchester homes, it was used as a field Hospital. In 1938, it was expanded and converted into Jones Funeral Home. There were several expansions during the 40 years that the funeral home used the building. In 1984 the building began its years as a fitness club – first Downtown Athletic Club and later P.E.R.C. Fitness.
Through many months of design, construction, and excitement, YHB moved into a great space in April 2011. Trying to stay true to the original architecture, YHB has a

great building with even greater stories. The facility houses YHB’s headquarters, commercial bank auditing team, and a training facility.
In June 2011, Yount, Hyde & Barbour was awarded the Lucille Lozier Award for Adaptive reuse of the former P.E.R.C. Fitness building.
