“I really like the opportunity my work gives me to help clients become more successful. For healthcare practitioners, this means having both the income and the lifestyles they want. To this end, I try to help them understand what factors most affect their profitability and how their practice and personal financial goals interact, so they can strike a balance that makes them feel good about what they do — and more successful, too.”

Insight that helps you make better decisions

Experience

Since joining Yount Hyde Barbour in 1994, Darren has focused his practice on meeting the tax, accounting and business consulting needs of medical, dental, and veterinary practice groups and their members, and now heads YHB’s Healthcare Practices Industry Team. Darren’s extensive industry experience and active participation in the Healthcare Advisors Association have given him an exceptionally deep understanding of the issues medical practitioners face and how to address them.

Expertise

Darren excels in conducting practice assessments and helping clients make better financial decisions. He specializes in owner buy-in and buy-out valuations, income allocations, billing and collection reviews, retirement plans, and mediating disputes about compensation and other practice management issues. Darren is especially effective at helping medical practitioners identify ways to reduce costs, improve operations, and increase profits.

Approach

To see what medical practices might do to better achieve their financial goals, Darren begins by taking a snapshot of a group’s financial productivity. He then uses benchmarks, such as patients served per day and revenue per patient, to compare the group’s performance to that of other groups around the country. This enables him to identify what is preventing group members from more fully achieving their objectives. He then brings his extensive industry experience and knowledge to bear in helping practitioners address issues and improve financial performance.
