“While I like being able to put my experience and knowledge to work for clients on a professional level, what I really enjoy is also getting to know them on a more personal level, so I can better help them become more efficient and profitable. And I’m delighted when I can refer them to other professionals I know in the community who can help them meet a special need or more fully achieve their objectives.”

Problem-solving that moves you ahead

Experience

Since beginning his accounting career at Yount Hyde & Barbour in 1980, Jeff has focused his practice on providing accounting, auditing, tax and advisory services to the community banking industry. As a result, he brings an exceptionally deep understanding of bank accounting and compliance issues to the clients he serves, and has been recognized as a Super CPA by Virginia Business magazine. At YHB, Jeff is a member of our Financial Institution Services Team who’s highly respected by staff and clients for his industry knowledge and effective advice.

Expertise

A Certified Bank Auditor (CBA), Jeff’s forte is his ability to connect with clients, identify issues and efficiently develop practical solutions. Because he’s worked with so many financial institutions, he can anticipate their needs and knows what tactics will help meet them. Over the years, Jeff has built an extensive referral network with SEC attorneys and investment bankers that enables him to leverage YHB’s expertise in bank mergers, audits, consulting and SEC registration and reporting.

Approach

Before he gets into the numbers with clients, Jeff clarifies why they called him, what they want and what their expectations are for an audit. He reviews their controls, discusses their concerns and identifies issues. Then he meets with the client’s audit committee or board of directors to outline the steps required to address issues, meet compliance requirements and take advantage of opportunities to improve their processes and controls. After completing an audit, he checks in regularly to see how things are going and address any concerns.
