R. Steven Spitzer, CPA, CFE
Solutions that create opportunities
Experience
Steve began his accounting career at Yount, Hyde & Barbour in 1979. Over the years he has worked on a wide variety of tax, audit and consulting engagements for clients in many industries, including banking, construction, nonprofit and governmental. Since becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Steve has focused on forensic accounting. He now heads up YHB’s Litigation Support, Evaluation and Forensic Accounting Team while continuing to direct our Nonprofit and Governmental Services Team.
Expertise
A master problem-solver, Steve enjoys working with YHB clients to identify factors that create a negative effect on their bottom lines and turn them into opportunities for improvement. Because he likes piecing puzzles together, Steve specializes in fraud detection for clients in real estate, publishing, general contracting, medical practice, small businesses, and governmental agencies. He also excels in providing expert witness testimony and litigation support in cases involving, but not limited to, fraud, divorce, business disputes, taxation, and audits.
Approach
In providing services, Steve strives to always put the client first. He treats every client as having unique needs that require customized solutions based on a thorough understanding of the client’s situation and objectives. To this end, he carefully analyzes financial and operational information to identify both issues and opportunities, drawing on his 30 years of professional experience to recommend ways to address issues and take advantage of opportunities.
