BERRYVILLE — Bank of Clarke County President and CEO John R. Milleson has been named the 122nd chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association (VBA).

Milleson succeeds Middleburg Bank President and CEO Gary R. Shook in the position, according to a news release Tuesday from the association.

Milleson, who has been with the Bank of Clarke County for 30 years, has been president and CEO of the bank and its parent company, Eagle Financial Services Inc., since 1999, according to the release.

He was executive vice president and secretary-treasurer of Eagle Financial Services and executive vice president and chief administrative officer for the Bank of Clarke County from 1997 to 1999.

Milleson has an economics degree from Bridgewater College and a master’s degree in business from Shenandoah University, according to the release.

“We are proud to have Johnny serve as Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association,” President and CEO Bruce T. Whitehurst stated in the release. “For three decades, Johnny has shown a dedication and passion for banking both in his community and through his active involvement with the VBA. We are confident his leadership will be pivotal to our work on behalf of Virginia banking this year.”

The association, which was established in 1893, has a legislative advocacy program and offers training to bankers around the state, in addition to offering products and services to its member banks.

The chairman and members are appointed each year, according to the association’s website, with the chairman often being re-appointed for one or two additional years.

The Bank of Clarke County, which first opened in 1881, has branches in Berryville, Boyce, Winchester, Stephens City, Frederick County, Round Hill and Purcellville.
