If estimated payments were prepared, separate letters may be enclosed detailing the estimates payments that should be made. If you still have questions, please reach out to your YHB representative.

If a payment is due along with your Federal/state returns or estimated payments, print out a copy of the applicable payment voucher(s) and mail the voucher and payment according to the instructions included with your return in a timely manner. Why am I being asked to verify my identity?

IRS regulations require tax preparers to verify a taxpayer’s identification via knowledge-based authentication before the taxpayer is able to electronically sign their e-file authorization form.

If I file jointly, does my spouse also need to sign the e-file authorization form?

Yes, IRS regulations require both spouses to sign the e-file authorization forms if filing jointly.  In this case, each spouse will receive a separate email with a unique link in order to sign the e-file authorization form.

How many attempts do I have to pass the knowledge based authentication process?  What should I do if I fail?

You have three attempts to pass the knowledge-based authentication process. If you fail after three attempts, you can contact us and we will reset the process, allowing you repeat the knowledge-based authentication process again. If you prefer, we can also send you the necessary forms to sign manually.
