Darren joined the YHB team in 1994, with a B.S. degree in accounting from Shepherd University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Medical Group Management Association (MGMA); a member and past President of the National CPA Healthcare Advisors Association (HCAA) and Blue Ridge Kiwanis Club; and a past President of the Blue Ridge chapter of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Darren focuses his practice on meeting the tax, accounting and business consulting needs of medical, dental, and veterinary practice groups and their members, and now heads YHB’s Healthcare Practices Industry Team. Darren’s extensive industry experience and active participation in the Healthcare Advisors Association have given him an exceptionally deep understanding of the issues medical practitioners face and how to address them.
Darren excels in conducting practice assessments and helping clients make better financial decisions. He specializes in owner buy-in and buy-out valuations, income allocations, billing and collection reviews, retirement plans, and mediating disputes about compensation and other practice management issues. Darren is especially effective at helping medical practitioners identify ways to reduce costs, improve operations, and increase profits.
To see what medical practices might do to better achieve their financial goals, Darren begins by taking a snapshot of a group’s financial productivity. He then uses benchmarks, such as patients served per day and revenue per patient, to compare the group’s performance to that of other groups around the country. This enables him to identify what is preventing group members from more fully achieving their objectives. He then brings his extensive industry experience and knowledge to bear in helping practitioners address issues and improve financial performance.
In his free time, Darren enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter. His favorite pastimes include watching, playing and coaching his children in basketball, baseball, football, tennis and golf.
